Description

This challenging 23km walk gives mesmerising views of the Galty Vee Valley. Check in is in Ballyporeen Community Centre, bus will transport participants up to The Vee and to the walking start point. The trail will start off going through the valley before picking up the Blackwater Way National Waymarked Trail(168km trail from Clogheen to Shrone, Co. Kerry)  and Tipperary Heritage Way (56km trail from The Vee to the Rock of Cashel). After a daliance

Get a glimpse of the valley below as we leave the hordes heading for the lake, instead heading for the quieter environs of the remote parts of the Knockmealdowns by following the Blackwater Way before detouring to the stunning hidden gem of the Three Doons Waterfall. The trail then rejoins the Blackwater Way for a few kms before picking up a fabulous ridge trail showing off the Galty Vee Valley in all its glory with its patchwork of fields (which inspired Johnny Cash to write 40 Shades of Green) in the valley surrounded by the Galtees to the north, bookended by the Ballyhouras to the west and Slievenamon and the Comeraghs to the east. Ballyporeen, the ancestral home of Ronald Reagan comes into clear view before the trail then descends into the woods and winds its way back to Ballyporeen.

The day will be complete with a hot meal and desert for all participants to replenish the lost energy and reflect on a memorable day of walking while being entertained with music on stage !!
